Protected Status — FAQs

What is a protected gas consumer in Pakistan?
A protected domestic consumer is one whose average gas consumption over the four winter months (November to February) is 0.9 hm³ (90 cubic metres) per month or less. Protected consumers are charged lower, subsidised slab rates and a lower fixed charge for the entire year.
How is protected status decided?
It is based only on your average metered usage during November, December, January and February. Once set, the category applies for the rest of the year, including summer months.
What if my winter usage is above 0.9 hm³?
Then you are classed as non-protected and pay higher slab rates plus a higher fixed monthly charge (about Rs 1,500 up to 1.5 hm³ usage, or Rs 3,000 above that).
Where do I see my official status?
Your tariff category is printed on your SNGPL/SSGC gas bill. This tool gives guidance; the company sets the official status from your metered winter consumption.
